Specter has been primaried multiple times in the GOP, and with how increasingly radical they've become he'd be screwed for certain if he did that, plus he'd have burned bridges with everyone in the PA political system, which isn't how to survive long term.
Also I don't think Specter is completely doomed, if Sestak doesn't start advertising in the primary then Specter is going to win, I haven't seen a single senate ad yet, and I live in PA. It's only like a month away till we vote.
Lieberman however I could somehow see the logic to flipping, but I doubt he'd even consider it unless the GOP took control of the senate without his vote. Despite how much a lot of us don't like him, he's still a world apart from the republicans in voting scores, and his hasn't changed all that much since becoming an independent.
