8. As strange as it may seem
I have seen the argument advanced by allegedly reasonable people that jailing the wealthy isn't a good form of punishment. The "reasoning" is that jail cells should be used for housing criminals who can't afford to buy their way out of it, and the wealthy should be fined (or taxed) for their misdeeds and allowed to walk free. The money could be used to fund essential public services, and jail cells would then be available for the real bad guys (who are curiously of the same low economic stratum). I'm a little fuzzy on the details, but it probably has something to do with the indispensable contribution the wealthy make to our society as the reason for not depriving the rest of us of their company.

It's pretty hare-brained, but I have no doubt it's quite a popular subject for wealthy wrong-doers, and Ms. Hincapie appears to have absorbed the lesson very well.
