Ecuadorian Police Chief Apologizes for Coup Attempt

Quito, Oct 11, (RHC).- Commander of Ecuador’s National Police Patricio Franco offered a public apology to both the people and President Rafael Correa for the attempted coup carried out by security forces last September 30th.

In a simultaneous TV and radio broadcast, Commander Franco said: “Compatriots, let me reiterate our commitment to an institutional transformation and to work tirelessly with the only objective of winning your trust.”

He also reported on the latest development in the case and promised that police officers involved in the September 30th revolt will be punished with the full weight of the law.

Patricio Franco was appointed as the new chief of the National Police on Friday, October 1st, following the resignation of Freddy Martinez after the attempted coup.
