This is utter bullshit. In fact, the opposite is often true.

You should be voting for the candidate that will uphold historic Democratic ideals. If a candidate is a corporatist, anti-civil-liberties, war mongering, sell-out, you shouldn't be voting for him no matter what brand-name he wears. You have no obligation to support a Republican - even if that Republican pretends to be a Democrat.

I will be voting for Roxanne Conlin (who's running against Chuck Grassley), but there's no way in hell I'd be voting for Ben Nelson if I lived in Nebraska. No way. I'd either vote third party, if that was a viable option, or leave it blank. I don't vote for Republicans... never have and never will. It's a matter of principle. If there are two Republicans to choose from, I refuse to support either one of them.
