own ego. Falwell was a phony. He did a disservice to Christianity. His fake piety was disgusting. He was just as much a con-man as the guy who sells fake Picassos to people who want to collect art but are too ignorant to recognize a bad copy.

Falwell stole bits and pieces of the message that Jesus gave for free, repackaged them to convey Falwell's own message of hate and bigotry and sold them for his personal benefit. Where Jesus taught love, Falwell taught hate. Where Jesus taught forgiveness, Falwell taught revenge. Where Jesus taught mercy, Falwell taught judgment. Falwell reversed the story of the widow's mite. He oppressed the poorest, intimidating them into giving him money that they didn't have.

Falwell was not just mistaken or misguided. He was evil and he used his persuasive skills to guide others on the path of evil and hate. He drove more people away from true Christianity than he brought to it.

Falwell has become a historical personality. Is it right to say about an evil person, "Well, now he's dead. I guess I had better not say how bad he was after all." Does death absolve the wrongdoing? May God grant him the fate he deserves.
