that the banks and the wealthy investor class would be rescued, then the spigot would be turned off and the oligarchs would demand that the rest of us pay off these newly transferred debts. I remember having this argument with a few people here back in 2008. The plan was never to keep spending or ensure the banks would loan money out and shore up the middle class, as I was so often reassured. The plan was to use the crisis to funnel more money upward and then use the aftermath to further lower our living standards and crush labor.
