A Washington Post poll found the highest support for President Obama's policies rests in his handling of the Afghanistan occupation . . .

from SMH: http://www.smh.com.au/world/afghanistan-policy-wins-more-fans-for-obama-than-any-other-issue-20100329-r8f2.html?autostart=1

___ Overall, 53 per cent of those polled approve of the way (the president) is dealing with the situation in Afghanistan; 35 per cent disapprove. Among independents, exactly half give the President positive marks, and 35 per cent negative.

In contrast, Mr Obama's approval rating on four big domestic issues in the poll sits below 50 per cent both generally and among independents.

In the poll, 37 per cent of Republicans approve of his management of the conflict there, more than doubling his overall 17 per cent job approval rating among the group. Democrats broadly approve - 69 per cent approve, 21 per cent disapprove - though that overall positive masks far higher ratings among conservative and moderate Democrats (75 per cent approve) than among liberals (58 per cent).

Separately, the public places greater trust in Democrats than Republicans to manage the situation in Afghanistan, 43 per cent to 33 per cent, though that is largely a matter of partisan preference. Independents split evenly between the two parties.
