It worked for a while in NY with black boogeymen but I'll bet if you asked New Yorkers if they'd ever elect him again you'd get a rousing fuck no in reply.
Gotta give him credit though. He's learning the talking points fast. The reference to god and freedom is right out of fundie wet dream land.
