to vote yes (to repeal the gay marriage law) by their pastors. I think this was primarily religious opposition, and the rural parts of the state. The yes campaign ran a fear based campaign claiming 2nd graders in public schools were going to be assaulted with gay literature and indoctrination by teachers- the ads were deplorable homophobia and factually wrong. I've learned fear usually trumps facts, even if the lies are debunked.

may be a case for going after the churches tax exempt status for political advocacy. The courts might be able to review the referendum as unconstitutional.
