My wife's accident story - and a corollary.

About a month ago (July 23rd to be exact), my wife left for work as usual early in the morning. I was awake as usual, taking care of my son, getting ready to go to work (and bringing him to my parent's) - when I got a page from my wife saying that she got into an accident less than a block from my house. I took my son out of his crib and ran over to the block where the accident occurred. My mother was there (Wife had called for my mother to interpret since she was deaf), and so was my wife, and her head was bleeding a little from the accident. (A driver rear-ended her, not paying attention to the car that had made a left turn on a side street after a U turn, hitting my wife on the side, a chain reaction followed, she hit a truck in front of her - parked). I made sure she was OK. My mother suddenly left after she called my dad because she had forgotten to turn off the alarm. What I did not know is that my father was confused and disoriented, and a fire truck responded first (it was 3 blocks away from our house) and asked him 3 questions and he was not responsive - so the decision was made quickly to call for an ambulance. My mother called my dad at that point and was answered by police - that my dad was being sent to the hospital. We all thought he was stroking out - turned out it was NOT the case. It turned out to be viral meningitis, and he almost died from it.

If the fire truck had not responded to the alarm, my dad would not be here today - and the "three questions" was key to their decision to send for an ambulance. Now, on a related thread, I can understand nadinebrezezinski's (sorry if I misspelled your name) concern for AMA and other stuff, and that made me think about it. This week, my dad returned back to full time work, three weeks removed from the hospital (he spent a week in the hospital). There was some problems in the hospital, but that's a story for another day.
