16. My experience with Reaganomics in a nutshell. In the early
80s and right after Reagan destroyed PATCO, my employer forced us to take a wage and benefit reduction. They said it would make them more competitive in the market place. Year later we took another concession, with the same thing to make our company more competitive. Shortly after the second concession we found out salary people got a raise and they never dropped the price of the product we were producing. In fact, they raised it. In 1986 my employer sold us to an unscrupulous Atlanta businessman with good banking connections. That first year with the new owner he changed the name of the company and we took our third wage and benefit concession. All though this the company was showing profits, but union employees were afraid of losing their jobs. The new employer never put a dime back into the factory and the writing was on the wall if you were smart enough to see what he was doing. He ended up defaulting on his loans and filed bankruptcy and hundreds of people were out of a job.
