144. I agree - litmus-test ideologies are NOT what we need.
Exactly. We get just like the republicans with their One and Two-Issue Litmus-test ideology.

Right now - colin powell can't be a powerful political republican because he's pro-choice.

Abortion and Gay Marriage are the two litmust-test, wedge issues - george-full-of-shit-bush used to ride back to a second term.

Democrats have to be better than that - we need to EDUCATE those who want to be down but may be a little confused or ignorant on some issues.

Like I said in another post - I'm all FOR FULL RIGHTS for EVERYONE - race, gender, creed and sexual preference.

Just like the constitution says.

I think EVERYONE should be.

But I recognize that there are some people - many blinded by religious conditioning - who don't see certain things through that clear a frame of reference.

Certain things are "moral" issues to them not issues of "equality".

As long as they're not hardened, inflexible, shortsighted, intolerant partisans - I'm willing to work with them and try to advance and enlighten their positions - especially if they can work with us on other important issues like ENDING this war, healthcare, education and energy!
