11. Very, very few people could survive an all-out government persecution.
It's entirely too possible for THIS government to choose some scapegoat for such persecution for politically expedient motives. Only the wealthiest and most connected 1% would have the resources and connections to survive it like their previous scapegoat did.

In a very depressing sense, it shows how appallingly disconnected from our own self-governance we've become and how we've lost our sense of a human community. We're in full Tonya Harding mode ... saving ourselves from the bear by knee-capping the closest companion. Escaping military service by letting those with no other reasonable choice do the dirty work. Rather than stand up in SOLIDARITY against injustice, we hide and say "Whew! Glad it wasn't me!" and then salve our consciences by joining the 101st Keyboard Brigade and patting ourselves on the back for filling out a ballot at an election we have little confidence is tallied accurately.

God help us.

(As a corporate whistle-blower, I know how fast "co-workers" abandon folks who stand up against injustice. Believe me.)
