83. The cops are clearly using them to mete out corporal punishment - but in our society

According to the laws on the books, we are not to receive ANY punishment until after we ahve been arrested, formally charged with a crime, and given the opportunity to either plead guilty or to have a trial that finds us guilty.

The cops are using tasers to inflict serious harm on people for BEING NON-RESPONSIVE!!

BEING NON-RESPOSNIVE is not a crime. And even if irt can be seen as a crime (resisting arrest, etc) tasering is not something that should be done until there has been a trial.

When the police depts were intially offered the devices, it was seen as a non-lethal way of helping the officers avoid comeing to harm. For instance, a suspect is lunging at you with a knife.
