As a photographer, I know the laws.

Knowing policemen, I know what they have to deal with and they're just as human. They may misperceive it, but they are not going to take the time to assume diddley, nor should they have to. Especially with the types of crimes that go on. It's sickening in some ways, but blame the excess amount of maniac criminals (murderers, et al) and how they got there for exacerbating the problems.
