Yes I know many of you say, but why are you asking such an obvious question?
Well folks today he joked about staying in power after his official term in office
It is the same kind of joke about this would be so much easier if it was a dictatorship, well back in oh 2000
So to those who still say that this is still a working democracy, I say bull...
What we have is a country in transition, and pretty advanced in the transition as well
Will we have elections?
Perhaps... but better call them by the right name... kabuki theater for the masses
What is worst is that Authoritarians on both parties now hate the idea of small d democracy and are open about it
Neo liberalism is alive and well, in both national parties
So the question is, as the curtains finally come on the American Republic and the Empire is fully revealed for all to see
Are we still going to pull and prod to show that we are almost there?
Oh and here the transcript, courtesy of C-SPAN, with the cute "joke."
If I were you folks, I'd take this at face value. We were told today he intends to stay
Oh and the but he hates it... ok... whatever... he also joked about a dictatorship and he's been effectively running the gov',ent by Fiat for the last seven years
Question starting at 30:51
Peter: Following up on a question about Vladimir Putin for a moment. He has said recently that next year when he has to step down according to the constitution as President, he may become Prime Minister, in effect keeping power and dashing any hope for a genuine democratic transition there.
Bush: I’ve been planning that myself. (barely audible chuckle in the room)
Peter: Sen. McCain said yesterday sir that when he looks into Putin’s eyes he sees a “K” a “G” and a “B.” He never would invite..
Bush: Pretty good line.
Peter: He would never invite him to Kennebunkport and he says it’s time we got a little tough with Vladimir Putin. I wonder if you think McCain was right and what would it mean for Russian democracy if, when you leave power, assuming you do, in January 2009, if Vladimir Putin is still in power.
Bush rambels about relationships, when dictatorships are fine, then put the alarm in the room to rest.
Bush: He (Putin) was wily. He wouldn’t tip his hand.
Bush: I’ll tip mine. I’ll sprint to the finish line, and then you’ll find me in Crawford.
