I don't believe the DLC is even the major force in the party. Many times something is labeled DLC just because the poster disagrees with it. I've been labeled DLC myself and I have nothing to do with them.
If you'll only belong to an organization in which you agree with everybody else in it you'll belong to nothing. The DLC didn't make anybody leave. All those people who left could have stayed to change what they disagreed with.
By the way, the DLC supports many of the goals you mentioned. I hate the DLC because it wants war and promotes the military industrial complex. But they do go along with the base on other stuff.
