14. My 18 YO daughter
Edited on Tue Jun-08-10 04:26 AM by Control-Z
was missing during the same week as the Holloway girl. I was terrified, out of my mind with worry, until I learned that my daughter had made the choice to move out of the state - without telling me, or anyone else.

On her behalf, I have to include the fact that she was running - after months of stepping up to the role of sole legal authority for dealing with, pretty much alone, her father's fate after a fall and blow to his head that left him vegetative. The doctors were not kind, respectful, or helpful, due mostly to her age - nor was her father's family helpful in any way, choosing to selfishly walk away, leaving the burden on her.

As much as I wanted to be, I was of little help as I was legally denied access to her father (my ex husband) or any decision making on his behalf. She held it together for months, making what were the most heartbreaking of decisions even for a mature adult - until it turned into a Terri Shaivo situation, because of a feeding tube, when her decision making was called into question before an ethics board.

I've thought about this a lot, and had I not been the lucky one that week, and had been the one in Halloway's mother's position, you bet I would have screamed and hollered and demanded media attention, from where ever and whom ever I could.

I just wish people would stop discounting this young woman and her family because of hair color.
