60. Laws on immigration
On paper, they are not typically racist, they are nationalist. The problem with immigration laws, especially the law in Arizona is how it will be applied. The nationalism and the history of racial relations in the United States is the problem with our approach to immigration. You do not honestly think that German, Scandinavian, Canadian, or British immigrants will be asked for their proof of citizenship do you?

There is a profile or stereotype of what an "illegal" is just as there is a ideal of what an "American" is and those two concepts are VERY different. I was born and raised in the United States and my family has been here for at least 100 years. Based on my life experience, I would be willing to put money on the fact that I would be asked for my proof of citizenship before some one here illegally from Canada or any northern European country would be questioned. That is the inherent racism of immigration laws in the US.
