Did he still have the strength and flexibility to use that knife. I am only in my mid 40's and have had that kind of training. And I am not as good as I was in my 20's. Not even close (car accident in my case).
I think a case could have been made that a 70 YO with a knife is less dangerous than a 70 YO with a gun.
This is a trajedy. No one wins. A sad old man goes to prison for the rest of his life (likely). A father is dead. A wife and children are bereft and alone. It's sad.
