They poured the cement that anchored the rig and was suppose to prevent gas leakage. Just like their shoddy work in Iraq, the cement crumbled and the gas leaked through. That is the preliminary findings.
It's quite easy to believe this because of Haliburton's record of shoddy work resulting in the deaths of American soldiers and the crumbling of school, hospital and barrack structures. They try to do things on the cheap in order to suck as much money out as possible.
Maybe the coincidence of the timing was more about Mother Nature trying to make a point.
