a) we deliberately created the conditions that allowed Pol Pot to take power by installing an only somewhat less murderous rightwing regime to replace the neutral Sihanouk government in our campaign to spread the war to Cambodia.
b) after the Vietnamese stepped in and tossed the murderous Pol Pot regime out, we backed their guerrilla war against the new government for at least 10 years.
The point is not that leftist authoritarian regimes have not been murderous thugs, the point I think is that we have enabled assisted and encouraged rightist authoritarian regimes around the planet for at least the last 50 years.
