82. Newt is like that relative, or teacher, or friend's dad that we all have
who is so amazingly out of step. In Newt's case, 15 years behind the rest of the country. It's like when he's on The Daily Show. He tries to hard to fall into the vibe of the show, that his tone deaf fail is all the more obvious because of his painful yearning. He, like Rove, has been gloriously wrong countless times in the past few years. He's no longer the wonder boy, the know-it-all, the authority. He's a desperate man trying desperately to cling on to some kind of relevancy. He's grabbing at Palin's mini-skirted hem for dear life. Secretly, he's smart enough to know she's a cipher. But he's a man who needs someone to get him into the club. He's standing outside, the bouncer doesn't recognizer him, and then the right's "It" girl swishes by and he goes prostrate at her high-heeled feet hoping she'll let him tag along. And she will, as long as he kisses her feet and tells her she's cute.
