26. Having a video event for the media is not a way to avoid media coverage.
Could have just issued a written low key statement, if he/his handlers thought a statement necessary, and then not discuss the issue again. Instead, gave the media more fodder. Not like the intent was for the media (that loves a tabloid saga) not to cover it.

Likely was a strategy with goal to eventually restore a public image...conveyed by the media for years....that has been lucrative in the past. If not, no reason to go public in this manner.
