compromise my preference for single payer to support the House health insurance reform plan.

And yes if Obama doesn't begin sticking up more for the middle class and working people than he has been doing, I would, for the first time in my life, seriously consider a third party or better a challenge to his candidacy in 2012.

The attempt to achieve a bipartisan consensus has failed. That was evident very early on. It was well intended, but the Republicans unfortunately have to be brought to their senses before it can be successful.

Republicans, in my opinion, have the mental maturity of the terrible twos -- the firm belief in selfishness as a virtue, love of the sound and feel of the word "No," and a lack of willingness to abide by simple rules.

Terrible twos, that's what they are.

You can't reason with them yet. A couple of years of firm but patient showing them who is boss on the part of the Obama administration, and they will become more reasonable.
