The taxpayers? If they do then I see no difference as they will continue to pay for it.

Why is it that hospitals overcharge people without insurance? Is it to pay for the ones that don't pay?

Of the 46 million people that are uninsured in this country, 6.9 million of those are illegal immigrants. According to the proposed bill they will continue to be uninsured. Who is going to pay for those people? Will they just not get care?

I also believe that those hospital bills haunt you forever. Unless you claim bankruptcy, which in my opinion is way to easy to do but that is another topic. They will garnish you wages and sue you or whatever.

My advice is that if you can not afford to pay the bill you should have insurance to cover the majority of the expense. But I don't think that there should be a law that mandates you to do so.
