my son and I visited my oldest brother. He has been sadly reduced from a highly intelligent, contributing member of society, to a shell of his former self, due to the combination of a long boxing career without defensive skills, followed by years of heavy substance abuse. However, from time to time, there are flashes of the person we once knew.
At one point, unrelated to anything we were discussing, he said, "We are rich." My son and I agreed, and waited for his follow-up. Then he said, "If a person has a roof over their head, and the ability to make meals, they are rich. If a person has the resources for a million meals hidden under their roof, and refuses to share with hungry people, they are sick."
