156. Nope-I did NOT shop on Black Friday. But my husband did...

he went to a local store after work-not Walmart-and bought a few groceries, the new "Wall E" movie for our kid and some gas. I can't stand the whole Black Friday B.S. and went once a few years back to try and get a cheap DVD player that I didn't get and swore never ever again. I hate crowds and I really hate pushing shoving mean crowds! I also hate that this country has become more shallow and materialistic with each passing year. And I'm happy that I turned my back on conspicuous consumption about 20 something years ago when I started shopping thrift stores, antique stores and garage sales. My entire house is furnished with old vintage stuff with the exception of things like beds, bedding, sofas, and kitchenware.

So there really isn't much at the local stores we'll be buying this year. Hubby wants a vintage watch which I'm looking for on eBay and I want some craft supplies which we have to order from Canada or back east. I feel good that we're helping small time business owners with our purchases. However, our kid will be getting movies, games and books which we'll order from Amazon...oh well. We've also been thinking of buying a cheap Dell laptop for the family gift from Santa because we all want to get online after dinner and I'm tired of fighting over whose turn it is to get the Mac. Other than that, we'll buy my MIL something nice and that's it, since we long ago gave up buying stuff for friends and extended family members.
