4. I've known a lot of illegal aliens in my years as a nurse
and they're like everybody else: 98% of them are decent and hardworking people who just want a chance at a better life than the one they got handed by birth. 2% are assholes who get all the bad press.

This man is a hero, whatever else he has done, and should be treated accordingly. I hope someone who owns a business steps up and sponsors him.

I'd like to see changes made: the minimum wage should be enough to support a worker in safe housing with nutritious food and access to health care. Employers who try to exploit vulnerable people like illegals at lower than the going wage should be charged, fined, and in extreme cases, imprisoned. That law is already on the books, just not being enforced.

Once they can't lure Mexican peasants with a minimum wage that looks like ten times what they make in Mexico or the rest of the third world but which won't support a single human being in the US, the lure of hiring cheap labor that doesn't speak the language or share the culture will diminish greatly. With the jobs drying up, the flood of illegals across the border will diminish.

As for the families already here, I'd like to see the ones not born here have a path to get green cards. Their children who are born here are citizens. I don't see a path to citizenship for people who broke the law to get here as a viable plan.

Remember, the people who come here illegally looking for a better shake aren't the problem. Most are hard working people, exactly who we want in this country. The problem is the pool of scumbag employers who recruit them in their home countries and pay them starvation wages when they get here. Once we raise the minimum above the starvation level and put the teeth back into the law against exploitive employers, the problem will solve itself.
