Crabbing season delayed due to SF oil spill

When I lived in the Bay Area I loved the opening of crab season - there's nothing better in the world than Dungeness crab right off the boats.

There's an interesting quote in this article in today's Chronicle that speaks volumes, given how American corporations are importing tainted products that poison children with date rape drugs and lead:

"If there's even the slightest taint of fuel either on the crab or in the holding tanks, we won't touch it because we won't be able to sell it," said seafood processor Angel Cincotta, who along with her mother and sisters runs the Alioto-Lazio Fish and Crab Co. on Jefferson Street at San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf. "The customer will not buy it and we wouldn't expect them to."

Commercial crabber Marcus Eaddy was at Saturday's meeting after running his boat, the Charlie D, from Crescent City to San Francisco for the opener.

The Charlie D was stacked with 350 pots rigged and ready for crabbing. After the meeting, Eaddy said he had no choice but to return to Crescent City for the northern Dungeness opener on Dec. 1.

"It's better than fishing here and screwing up someone's health," he said.

Putting the health of the public over profits....what a concept. I feel so bad for our crabbers (and our sea birds, and the people having to deal with that toxic crap in the Bay).
