A Question of Impeachment
Beginning Sunday, November 18, Culture Project brings crucial and timely concerns to the fore once again with a new, unique series that gathers some of the most brilliant and visionary minds of our time to explore and debate the case for the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Cheney.
A Question of Impeachment engages audiences in the investigation of crucial issues affecting all Americans, particularly as they prepare to elect a new leader, including expansion of executive powers, war, surveillance, torture and extraordinary rendition, and government response to disaster.
Culture Project brings together some of today's most important and knowledgeable minds: Michael Ratner of the Center for Constitutional Rights, Bruce Fein, former Assoc. Deputy Attorney General, former congresswoman Elizabeth Holtzman, attorneys Scott Horton and Elizabeth de la Vega, former CIA analyst Ray McGovern, writers Lewis Lapham and Naomi Wolf, and others will be joined by artists Jackson Browne, Sam Shepard, Phoebe Snow, Annabella Sciorra, Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater, Rinde Eckert, Allison Moorer, Lynn, Vanessa, and Colin Redgrave, Adam Rapp, Jonathan Demme, Bobby Cannavale, Staceyann Chin and many more.
A Question of Impeachment runs Sundays and Mondays at Culture Project.
Sundays focus on addressing the issues through film, theater, and other art forms employing the role of art as a community galvanizer and rallying point.
Mondays tackle the five articles of impeachment directly, through depositions modeled on actual impeachment hearings; Culture Project brings renowned lawyers from both sides of the argument who will interview expert witnesses culled from the worlds of the military, public policy, international negotiation, and the media.
While the idea of impeachment has been tarnished in recent years by a reputation of reprisal-seeking, historically it has been and was intended to be a vital tool to ensure the ultimate defense of civil liberties and the upholding of the Constitution of this country.
At a time when there appears to be no leadership in government to hold officials responsible for their actions, this diverse group of leaders is proceeding by way of a trial by theater the most compelling means at our disposal to offer the concerned citizens of this country a public platform to hold their government to account.
