54. The calls
are serving a purpose. We are not disrupting his office, or expressing any opposition to Rep. Conyers. we are exercising our rights as outlined in Amendment #1 of that Bill of Rights.

You handled the conversation perfectly. Thank you.

John Conyers is a good and decent man, and I respect him as a leader in Congress. That does not mean, however, that he is always right about everything, or that he can afford to ignore the voices from the grass roots. Trust is a two-way street, and the democratic leadership must honor that fact -- especially when there are requests for us to invest in their campaigns.

A final note: I wish that Rep. Conyers' staff would consider what Malcolm X used to say about "trust": that he liked to rate people on a scale of 0 to 100, based on how much he trusted them. And he didn't trust anyone 100% -- not even himself.
