A soldier undergoing a water boarding demonstration in training knows that he'll be going home at the end of the day. Same for a reporter attempting to educate his audience. Torture is more than pain. Torture is also being subject to the whims of your captors. You have no recousre, no protection. Laws against torture protect all of us from out of control officials. If we allow any of these methods, we are putting power over us all in the hands of the worst of us.
