may be incineratied next week, for no reason but their oil, by a U.S. government that is out of control, here in the land of the free, home of the brave.
I don't think it will happen. Iran is not the pushover Iraq was, after 12 years of economic pummeling and bombing of the no-fly zone, and destruction of their air force, and Iran has powerful allies, including China, which is holding much of our debt paper--although Bush/Cheney and Democratic colluders and their corporate/war profiteer puppetmasters may not care what happens to the rest of us, if they try to smash Iran. They have the wherewithal, spirited away in secret accounts (probably in foreign currency) to go anywhere they wish, and to buy and fortify small islands and countries. But the killer is that we don't know what these traitors and criminals will do. All we know is we can't stop them. 56% of the American people opposed the Iraq War, before it started (Feb. '03) and that didn't stop them. They just rigged the election system with corporate-controlled "trade secret" code, to undo our votes in 2004. 70% oppose it now, and that isn't stopping them. Our 'Democratic' Congress, with an antiwar mandate unprecedented in history--70%!--endorsed an ESCALATION of the Iraq War, and larded Bush and Cheney with $100 billion MORE of our tax dollars to keep killing Iraqis until they sign over their oil rights.
So what's to stop them from attacking Iran, at their will? Not us. We don't count. Maybe China and other allies, at our expense and untold suffering. Maybe Iran itself. They are well-defended, with a large, young population that does not feel particularly oppressed (compared, say, to Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait and the other fat sultanates, or Afghanistan, now run by the drug lords again, or smashed up Lebanon, or the Palestinians, behind the walls and the prison bars). Iranians are much better off than any other Middle Eastern-Islamic people, are proud of their ancient heritage, feel relatively prosperous and free, and would likely defend their country to the hilt, and then some. And the U.S. military doesn't have such a good track record for conquest, to say the least, and it is stretched to the max--and probably way beyond the max. There just isn't enough American cannon fodder for invasion/occupation. So Bush/Cheney & Co.'s only option is heavy bombing and probably nukes. They could pull that trigger any time, while we stand helplessly by.
And that is the problem. No discussion. No vote. A bunch of lies in "the news." 100,000 dead Iranians. It simply doesn't matter what we think, or what we want. The Armageddon they clearly want will change things radically, and quickly--all to the bad, at first. If we escape escalation to WW III, we will likely suffer economic sanctions by the rest of the world, and great turmoil at home. It could bring down the Corporate Ruler State, which might redound to our favor, in the end. But who knows what hell we might have to pay, in the immediate aftermath? And who knows what it will do to our psyches to have lost control of our government, which then commits yet another atrocity of such magnitude? Could sober us up, and activate us all to reform our government. But it could also mean civil chaos.
And we don't know. And we have no control over these events. Ah, me.
