In fact, the woman I was speaking with got me to modify my opinion of the rights of women to not be "scoped out" on the street. We had a lengthy, intelligent discussion, and we actually read each other's posts and responded to them reasonably. The amazing thing is that I started the discussion by posting a snarky reply to something she had written, but she cut through the snark and responded to the POINT I was making. And things took off from there.

So, you CAN have a rational debate on DU, if people are willing to overcome their knee-jerk reactions to what they view as "attacks". If you think someone is attacking you, try responding to them reasonably and intelligently, and I'll bet they shape up right away.
