They cost more because.. 1)They are built to higher standards
2)They get better gas mileage in every class
3)have a higher resale value
This might not be the best analogy but..... If you buy a mobile home instead of a house sure its cheaper to buy outright but you might have to pay lot rent etc it isnt buit very well it cant withstand high winds and might need to be fixed more often and the the value goes down dramatically in a short amountof time a home holds its value well infact it goes up.
