47. That's what jumped out at me too
“It was stunning. We couldn’t believe he came in,” said one aide in attendance. “We kept looking at each other, amazed he came in,” said another.

Is this how far we've slipped? Is this the new normal.Being surprised the the motherfucking president of the United States would stop into a meeting of party leaders to talk about the most divisive and pressing issue of the day?

Has it become common wisdom that Bush is such a total bonehead and so far removed from the true levers of power that it's remarkable that he would join a policy meeting? It's really sad that a news organization (well, sorta)would assume their audience "just knows" that the president is so intellectually vapid as to be worse than useless in this type of meeting.

Other than that, it's kind of a strange article. It's like reading an article from Pravda during the Brezhnev days. You have to read between the lines to make out what's going on. I think it boils down to this; the president is by intellect and temperment wholly out of his depth, was knee crawling drunk when he crashed the meeting, is entering Nixonian talking-to-pictures territory, and most importantly Fox is just about to bail out on his sorry ass.
