I saw this morning that the family that owns the Dow Jones Industrial Index may be close to a deal with Rupert Murdoch that would allow Murdoch to buy the Wall Street Journal. This and the fact that Murdoch has been trying to buy the paper for a few months caused me to have a question. Why do Democratic billionaires not try to do what Murdoch and other Republican billionaire do? Why don't more Democratic billionaires try to buy newspapers and media stations? It seems that they could do so just to keep some of the major newspapers and TV stations out of the hands of the Republican billionaires. Warren Buffet could have either tried to buy the Tribune company or he could still try to buy the Wall Street Journal. The Wall Street Journal is a business paper so it seems like it would be a good fit for Buffet. There are a number of Democratic billionaires, but none or very few of them seem to want to buy into the news media and prevent Republicans from increasing their ownership control over the media.
