He and his companies would do a lot better if they opened up and let outsiders contribute more. The ironic thing is, Jobs is very possessive about things that weren't his ideas to begin with. All Apple has ever done is steal ideas from other people and wrap them up in a prettier package. Don't get me wrong: there will always be a market for pretty things. It's just that the number of people that want expensive pretty things will always be kinda small. I guess I shouldn't complain. I'm a Capitalist to the core, and Jobs is merely fulfilling a niche that needs filling.
