40. I keep thinking of Guyana as a proxy country for Venezuela
Guyana has a population of 750,000 with some natural resources and oil, but nothing worth going to war over. The country is also very poor. The same applies to Suriname which is a poor, virtually empty country.

So why were COLOMBIAN drug cartels so active in that region. The links between Colombia and the cocaine in the United States are well known.

What do Guyana, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago have in common? They are close to Venezuela and corrupt and empty enough to train rebels and handle cocaine shipments meant for Venezuela.

Is a Guyana drug cartel important enough to stage a fake terror attack in New York? Not very likely!

Is Kerik interested in a country which has little or nothing of interest and most people can't even find the country on a map.

Is there a strategic reason for having Kerik and a drugs-for-arms group in Guyana? Yes, it's called Venezuela, a rich, important country with lots of oil and a socialist President who defies Bush time and time again.
