Prosecutor: Informants put Vick at fights

SURRY -- Surry County prosecutor Gerald G. Poindexter acknowledged in a TV news interview on Wednesday that witnesses have come forward to place NFL star Michael Vick at illegal dogfights.

Speaking to WAVY-TV 10, Poindexter said: "We have informants. We have people who are volunteering to make those allegations."

Ever since the investigation began -- after 66 dogs were found during an April 25 narcotics raid on a home then owned by Vick -- there have been rumors of witnesses who described Vick attending dogfights. Last week on ESPN's "Outside the Lines," a man with alleged ties to dogfighting rings said he had met Vick at dogfights and bet on fights involving dogs owned by Vick. The man's face was not shown and his voice was distorted to hide his identity, but national a national dogfighting investigator said the man was a credible witness.

No charges have been filed in the case, and the investigation is continuing.
