The logistical and support that is required whenever the President goes anywhere or does anything. Secret service, secure air craft and cars all are costs that are paid for by taxes. The main criticism is that he could have--and probably should have--done this during some official business.

But, still, all the poutrage is high hypocrisy on the part of the Publicans as his laziness, George II, spent so much time and taxpayer money avoiding his job or leaving his work to be done by Cheney and his nannies when he took "vacation time" in Texas.
