White House defends Bush's use of enemy body count in Iraq

WHITE HOUSE The White House doesn't want Americans to think that U-S forces in Iraq are "just targets."

Spokesman Tony Snow says U-S troops are "fighting the bad guys" and killing and capturing them.

That's his explanation when asked about the administration's new emphasis on enemy body counts. Until recently, that's something President Bush and the White House had not been talking about. But this week, the president noted that nearly six-thousand enemy forces have been killed or captured in Iraq since October. In comparison, the entire U-S death toll since the war began in March 2003 is a little over 29-hundred.
