17. There are many reasons the Democrats won Tuesday
One of the biggest ones is that one third of evangelical Christians who had been voting Republican voted Democratic. They are not shaking in their boots at the thought of an honest and ethical government. On the contrary, that is exactly why they voted for the Democrats instead of the Republicans this time.

I want to hang on to those votes. I'd rather have these people as my friends than my enemies. While we've felt some frustration at their social conservatism, a lot of them are also WalMart employees. Maybe we won't offer a ban on abortion and gay marriage, but we can encourage cheapskate employers like WalMart to pay their employees a living wage instead of telling them how to apply for public assistance. Democrats can promise to make life better and easier for these people and their traditional families.

I have always believed that is a proper role of government. That's one of the reasons why I'm a Democrat.

If the Democrats can deliver what we need to these people, then 2008 may very well turn out to be a watershed election marking the beginning of an era of Democratic dominance in American politics.

That will make you feel better than kicking anybody's ass, won't it?
