This artificial idea of "balance" is part of what makes the media such a joke right now. It's the same bullshit that's trotted out whenever a paper prints vague crap about how "some people say" or articles that repeat GOP talking points - "oh, we have to balance the news." No, you should be printing the news, the actual news, not serving as a mouthpiece for propaganda.
Letters to the editor should be chosen by their relevance to current affairs, by their content (not whether the editors agree but whether they actually make a point or any sense) and not by whether they fulfill the function of meeting some idea of "balance."
