Tom Zoellner discusses and reads excerpts from his latest book, "The Heartless Stone: A Journey Through the World of Diamonds, Deceit, and Desire." During his presentation at Bookworks, Mr. Zoellner talks about the diamond industry and also about the tenth largest diamond-producing nation in the world, the Central African Republic. He reveals how diamonds are created, mined, and sold. In addition, he analyzes the symbolic meaning of diamonds around the world and the role that advertising plays in creating demand for the stone.

Tom Zoellner is the co-author of "An Ordinary Man," the autobiography of Paul Rusesabagina, the hotel owner whose actions during the 1994 Rwandan genocide were portayed in the movie Hotel Rwanda. Mr. Zoellner has been a contributing editor at "Men's Health" magazine and a reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle.
