6. I can't stand the white parents, but their daughter has a future.
I watched the episode when she revealed herself to her writing group, and I don't think she'll ever forget that. Not ever. That was powerful stuff, the kind of thing that changes you. She seemed to finally get it, even though it was the boys doing most of the talking and ultimately accepting.

Her parents, though, are a lost cause. Where did they get these people? Bruno is an ass, and his wife is barely okay. She has so very many stereotypes in her head that need to get erased that I don't think this one experience will take care of it.

She makes me think of my mom who went on a church trip to inner city Cleveland who made some progress in her thinking but never went on from there. Frankly, she embarrasses me whenever she starts remembering that trip or talking about racial issues, as she doesn't even see that what she's saying is bad. She really thinks that being patronizing is being nice.

I haven't seen much with the African American family, though. When are they going to start going more places and shopping and stuff? They seem really level-headed, and how they've kept from exploding at some of that crap that Bruno spouts off, I have no idea.
