16. Many of the Vietnamese in Mississippi are Catholic.
Left over vestiges of French colonization.

I'm working with an interfaith group down here, while we have a good working relationship with the Muslims and the Jews on the Coast, we've been unable to establish much of a relationship with the Buddhists. We think this is partly language barrier, partly social barrier, and partly a deep distrust of anybody who might have the power to deport "ferriners" -- especially when those foreigners have lost every shred of evidence that they're here legally when a giant wave washed their lives out to the Gulf.

That being said, we have developed wonderful relationships with the Vietnamese population through two other advocacy groups, Boat People SOS and NAVASA (National Alliance of Vietnamese American Service Agencies). Both agencies are kicking ass for Vietnamese immigrants and Vietnamese Americans from Texas to Florida, both groups are very deserving of donations, as well.

**Sorry to sort of hijack your donation thread, Plaid Adder. You know I truly support the very good Lenten project you're undertaking! :yourock:
