in my church was that although he didn't like Clinton at all, he still emphasized how important it is for christians to be supportive of the leaders that God places in high office. God put Bill Clinton in high office so therefore the christians were obligated to be supportive of him.

The consequence for not doing so? God would remove that person in high office and replace him with a terrible one and there would be much grieving. I wonder how many of them actually paid attention and stayed silent or prayed for President Clinton instead of obsessing over sex acts in the white house. I mean look what's happened to the country since then.
