4. he was an Iraqi general who's now in the new government ...

Jon Stewart was being friendly and respectful to him, and didn't demand proof (after all, that's not really his job, since it's a comedy show ...)

Stewart did ask why Bush's people weren't fully engaged in following up this lead, since it would let them off "the very large hook" they're now on. And the general claimed that it would soon all come out, but didn't offer any specifics. He admitted, though, that he hadn't supervised the operation, but had heard from other people that WMDs had been moved. (I wasn't entirely certain how much stuff allegedly was sent off, by truck and air -- or whether it was still viable -- or exactly WHEN this operation occurred. So I'm reserving judgement.)

p.s. When the general said that the stuff had been packed in yellow barrels with skull-and-crossbone symbols on them (or words to that effect), Stewart did intervene and asked why they hadn't tried to conceal this a bit better, if it was supposed to be a secret -- "put 'SPAM' on them, or something?"

So now I'm all confused. Was it really dangerous chemicals which were being transported as dangerous chemicals? Or not-so-dangerous chemicals which were being disguised as dangerous chemicals so people would think they were WMDs, while the real WMDs were either somewhere else (disguised as not-so-dangerous chemicals), or still back in Iraq, or nonexistent?
